Rome Tourist Attractions
Colosseum

Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is the most popular building in Rome, Italy, which received its more common name from a giant statue, or colossus, of Nero. Over the road from the Colosseum, next to Via San Giovanni in Laterano, you'll see a partially excavated area. This was the site of the gladiators' barracks. A small arena suggests that here they were given the opportunity to practice their crowd-pleasing moves.

Castel Sant'Angelo
Castel Sant'Angelo is one of Rome 's popular sights. The construction of the building can be dated back to the days of Emperor Hadrian between 123 and 139AD to serve as his mausoleum. Inside the castle, you can still walk up the wide spiral passage designed for the ascent of the funeral cortege.
Rome Zoo, the Bioparco
Renamed recently as Bipraco, Rome Zoo is a habitat of animals and birds. Rome 's Zoo is located in the Villa Borghese park area, on Viale del Giardino Zoologico. In keeping with the 'Bioparco' name, each creature has a sign (in Italian and English) describing not just its name and characteristics, but the area populated by the species, now and in the past - a sad reminder of the dangers of extinction, and the preservation role of zoos like the Bioparco.
Capitoline Museums
The Capitoline Museums are the most popular tourist spots in Rome. The Museums possess the collections of ancient Roman art. Historically, the museums date back to the 15the century. Here you will stumble across the Boy with a Thorn in his Foot, the Dying Gaul, the Capitoline She-Wolf, an Etruscan bronze suckling Romulus and Remus (later additions), the original bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, fragments of a truly gigantic statue of the Emperor Constantine.
Museo di Roma (Palazzo Braschi)
The Museo di Roma has a vast collection dedicated to the history of the city from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century. Only part of this assortment of drawings, paintings, sculptures, frescoes, costumes etc. is on display at any one time. Palazzo Braschi itself is a solid and elegant palace dating to the eighteenth century, with a grand staircase boasting red granite columns once belonging to Caligula. The building's original frescoes can still be seen in many of the rooms of the museum.
Galleria Spada
Palazzo Spada is one of Rome 's few palaces which present a pretty face to the world: most keep all the fancy stuff for their hidden courtyards and halls. Built in 1540, the palace came into the possession of Cardinal Spada, who gave it its present name, in the seventeenth century.
